There’s a new trailer for Shailene Woodley’s “Adrift,” a film based on the book “Red Sky in Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea” by Tami Oldham Ashcraft with Susea McGearhart ($11 at Amazon). The film itself won’t be hitting theaters until later this summer, but you can get an early look at the adaptation in the video below.

Based on actual events, the film tells the story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them to love & then to the adventure of a lifetime. As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn’t anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved. The studio teases the film stating, “Adrift is the unforgettable story about the resilience of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love”.

Joining Shailene Woodley in the film is Sam Claflin, the movie was directed by Baltasar Kormákur working from a screenplay written by Aaron Kandell, Jordan Kandell and David Branson Smith. Fans of the actors can watch the official trailer below.

“Adrift” will release on June 1, 2018, which is a pretty open weekend at the box-office. The debut weekend for “Adrift” will be critical, as “Ocean’s 8” starring Dakota Fanning, Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, Sarah Paulson, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter is set to open the following week. Also opening that same weekend is the horror-thriller “Hereditary” starring Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, and Ann Dowd, which could split the box-office even further during Adrift’s follow-up weekend.
