Freeform will be celebrating with Marvel fans at SXSW this year, and bringing a new sci-fi series to Wondercon. The network confirmed today that “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” will have its world premiere watch party during South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, on March 11th. The premiere will mark Freeform and Marvel Television’s first presence at SXSW.
“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly discovered superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Freeform released a new Cloak & Dagger trailer on YouTube earlier today.
Following the world premiere, series stars Holt and Joseph along with executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski, director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and executive producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, will take the stage for a discussion about creating “Cloak” and “Dagger” – a pair of young adults navigating life’s issues of relationships, loss and race, and forming their own identities.
The highly anticipated new series premieres on June 7 at 8:00 p.m. EDT with a two-hour event on Freeform. “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” is based on the beloved comic characters and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios.
The network also confirmed that it will be bringing the cast and executive producers of the highly-anticipated mermaid drama, “Siren,” to WonderCon on Saturday, March 24 in Anaheim, CA to screen never-before-seen footage and discuss the upcoming series, which debuts on Thursday, March 29, with a special two-hour premiere (8:00–10:00 p.m. EDT). Freeform released a new Siren Trailer on YouTube earlier today.
Among those coming to WonderCon include series regular stars Eline Powell (‘Ryn’), Alex Roe (‘Ben’), Fola Evans-Akingbola (‘Maddie’), Ian Verdun (‘Xander’), Sibongile Mlambo (‘Donna’), Rena Owen (‘Helen’) and executive producers Emily Whitesell and Eric Wald.
In this epic tale, the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids, is turned upside down when a mysterious girl (Powell) appears and begins wreaking havoc upon the small fishing town. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Roe) and Maddie (Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land and are there more like her out there?
“Siren” is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who both serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell (“Finding Carter”) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb also serve as executive producers.
