Venom Trailer Offers a Quick Look at Tom Hardy and the Symbiote

Sony Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for “Venom,” a standalone installment created within the Spider-Man franchise. The action-thriller won’t hit theaters until October, but you can get an early look at the film below thanks to a quick upload from the Studio to YouTube and social-media. This is the first teaser-trailer released for the film, and while it shows the alien symbiote in a glass case, it does not offer a clear look at Tom Hardy’s costume once his transformation is complete.

The new spinofff film was directed by Ruben Fleischer, “Venom” will star Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy in the role of the lethal Venom. The screenplay was written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, along with Kelly Marcel and Will Beall. Joining Tom Hardy in the film are Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott.

The film is based on the popular character from Marvel Comics, and was produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal. Sony is currently celebrating the success of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” starring Tom Holland, who also played Spider-Man in the “Captain America: Civil War” installment for Marvel as part of Sony’s deal with Marvel Studios. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” made over $334M for Sony Pictures domestically, before making over $880M worldwide. That Spider-Man installment was directed by Jon Watts, and featured Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr., Tony Revolori, Donald Glover, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, and Jon Favreau. A sequel is expected to release in the future, and Tom Holland will also appear as Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel film “Avengers: Infinite War,” set to release in May.

Sony Pictures will release “Venom” in theaters on October 5, 2018. “Venom” will open against The Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga project “A Star is Born,” and will have to battle “Goosebumps 2,” the new “Halloween” reboot, “Mowgli,” and several thriller films throughout the month at the domestic box-office.
