The upcoming thriller “Unsane” recently made headlines when it was reported that Steven Soderbergh shot the film using an Apple iPhone. While it may seem gimmicky, the director isn’t the first to put the 4K power of an iPhone’s camera to mainstream use, and the result is less obvious than you may have guessed. At this year’s Sundance Film Festival Soderbergh said, “Anybody going to see this movie who has no idea of the backstory to the production will have no idea this was shot on the phone.” Soderbergh seems to view the tech as more of a movement, rather than an experimental installment. To his credit, it seems little was done to over-polish the film to highlight any of the iPhone’s capabilities, and instead, the resulting film looks like a traditional movie shot on a digital-camera. Which is what makes the fact that it was shot on a mobile phone so impressive.
This week, Fingerprint Releasing and Bleecker Street announced that they will release the psychological thriller in theaters nationwide on March 23, 2018, and the studio prepared a trailer to get moviegoers excited for the film. Directed by Soderbergh, the story was written by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, and the film stars Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins, and Amy Irving.
In the film a young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution where she is confronted by her greatest fear, but it’s unclear which parts are real and which parts are caused by her alleged delusions.

Foy is also filming “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” where she will be taking on the role of Lisbeth Salander. That project is being directed by Fede Alvarez, and also features Sylvia Hoeks and Lakeith Stanfield. Foy rocketed to popularity in 2016 after taking on the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series “The Crown”.
The actor went into “The Crown” with some regal experience, having starred in the mini-series event “Wolf Hall” in the role of Anne Boleyn.
“Unsane” will release in theaters nationwide on March 23, 2018.
