Paramount Pictures has released another trailer for “Annihilation,” a thriller coming to theaters later this winter. The film stars Natalie Portman, on the hunt for her missing husband in a mutated sector of America. Titled “The Shimmer Featurette,” the video focuses on the new phenomenon that is slowly expanding across the globe, and shows no signs of stopping.

Natalie Portman plays Lena in the film, a biologist and former soldier. Lena joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X – a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline. The studio teased the film adding, “Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscape and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity.”

The film itself was directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later) and is based on the acclaimed best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer; Joining Portman in “Annihilation” are Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez and Tuva Novotny. Sci-fi thriller fans can watch the new teaser below, uploaded this week by the studio. This is the second major trailer released by Paramount Pictures, if you missed the first one you can watch that trailer here on our site.

While the film has big-names and a big director attached, it also has a lot of competition at the box-office. Marvel’s “Black Panther” will open nationwide one-week before “Annihilation, along with Lionsgate’s animated-comedy “Early Man”. Earlier that month the Warner Bros. Pictures’ film “The 15:17 to Paris,” Universal’s “Fifty Shades Freed,” and the animated-comedy “Peter Rabbit” from Sony are also set to debut nationwide. “Annihilation” will debut alongside the Warner Bros. Pictures’ comedy “Game Night,” starring Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman, and Jesse Plemons.

If you want to set a reminder, “Annihilation” is scheduled to hit theaters on February 23, 2018.
