Billboard Music Awards to air live on NBC this May
The first time NBC will air the event
NBC, along with dick clark productions, have confirmed that Sunday, May 20th will be the coast-to-coast live telecast of the 2018 “Billboard Music Awards.” It’s a special year for NBC, this will mark the first telecast of the highly popular music awards show on the network. Earlier this year NBC acquired the rights to the “Billboard Music Awards,” through a new multi-year deal signed in November that brought the award show to the network.
The “Billboard Music Awards” showcases popular musical acts, along with fan-favorite performances and unexpected collaborations. The actual “Billboard Music Awards” finalists are based on key interactions with music fans, as well as album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The finalists and award winners are determined using data reflecting a 12-month tracking period.
Last year the event was hosted by Ludacris and singer Vanessa Hudgens. The 2017 event aired live on both coasts from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. If you need a recap of last year’s big winners, Drake beat Adele’s record for most Billboard Music Awards in a single night after taking home 13 trophies. Adele was the previous winner with 12. Drake won many of the highest honors of the night, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Tour, Top Rap Album, Top Streaming Song (Audio), Top R&B Song, and Top R&B Collaboration.
Since 1940, the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the popularity of artists, songs and albums, and are the ultimate measure of success in music.
The “Billboard Music Awards” is produced by dick clark productions. Allen Shapiro, Mike Mahan, Mark Bracco, Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton are executive producers.
