Earlier this week at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter 2018 Press Tour, Starz announced the premiere dates for “Counterpart,” “Vida,” and “Sweetbitter”. The first series, “Counterpart,” will premiere on January 21st, and the series “Vida” and “Sweetbitter” will premiere on May 6, 2018.

“Counterpart” is from creator Justin Marks, MRC, Gilbert Films, and Anonymous Content. The series is about a mysterious world hidden beneath the surface of our everyday existence. Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) is a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. The studio teased the series adding, “When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double cross… where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world.”

The show “Vida” will be a half-hour drama series focusing on two Mexican-American sisters, Emma (Mishel Prada) and Lyn (Melissa Barrera), from the Eastside of Los Angeles. Circumstances force them to return to their old neighborhood, where they are confronted by the past and surprising truth about their mother’s identity.

“Sweetbitter” is probably the most highly-anticipated of the three, and tells the story of Tess, a 22-year-old who arrives in New York City ready to pursue a new life. When she finds herself interviewing for a position at one of the best restaurants in the city, she thinks she’s found a steady income and a safe place to wait. But Tess is quickly intoxicated by the chaotic, adrenalized world behind-the-scenes, tasting expensive wine, exploring dive bars, and learning who she can trust. The series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name ($12 on Amazon) written by Stephanie Danler.

Starz also used the TCA event to announce more Outlander episodes, as well as new television series that takes place in the “John Wick” universe.
