Sony Pictures released the first official trailer for the horror-thriller “Slender Man” today, the film is scheduled to hit theaters later this spring.

The story takes place in a small town in Massachusetts, where four high school girls perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of Slender Man. When one of the girls goes mysteriously missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, his latest victim.

The film was directed by Sylvain White, and was written by Victor Surge. The story itself is based on the character created by Victor Surge. Starring in the film are Joey King, Julia Goldani-Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, and Javier Botet, a few of which have starred in recent thrillers. Fans of the genre can watch the first official trailer below, the film itself will release on May 18, 2018.

If you watch a lot of thrillers you might remember Joey King from her recent film “Wish Upon,” which was directed by John R. Leonetti and written by Barbara Marshall. King starred in the film with Ryan Phillippe and Ki Hong Lee. “Wish Upon” wasn’t a huge hit, but it basically broke-even in theaters after pulling in $14M domestically. Julia Goldani-Telles was featured in the series “The Affair” as the role of Whitney Solloway, and Annalise Basso you might remember from the thriller “Ouija: Origin of Evil” from director Mike Flanagan. Basso was featured in that film along with Elizabeth Reaser, and Lulu Wilson.

May will be a busy month at the box-office this year, starting with “Avengers: Infinity War” on May 1, 2018. Disney will bookend May with the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” on May 25, 2018. That gives “Slender Man” a very small window of success, but the lore might bring fans into the theaters. Currently Sony Pictures is the only major studio releasing a film that week, which will most likely change as other films wrap production.

Since you have such a long wait, best to keep “Slender Man” on the back-burner for now, but more trailers and teasers will be released from the studio as we get closer to its premiere date.
