The last time we checked in with “Ready Player One” was at San Diego Comic-Con, but the first-look trailer was never released to the actual public until just this week. Warner Bros. Pictures released the first official trailer for the film earlier today, offering fans a terrific view of Spielberg’s next sci-fi epic. You might also recognize a few dozen of your favorite pop-culture icons along the way, almost too many to count. In a blink of an eye you can see characters pulled from Overwatch, King Kong, Street Fighter and Iron Giant to name a few.
While the trailer is amazing, fans will have to wait a few more weeks to see the film on the big screen. “Ready Player One” is scheduled to hit theaters this coming March and will have a lot of competition at the box-office. Three-time Academy Award winner, Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”) directed “Ready Player One,” which is based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon ($10 at Amazon). The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner; Dan Farah; and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger; with Bruce Berman serving as executive producer. De Line and Farah originally brought the project to Warner Bros. Among the star-studded cast bringing the film to life are Hannah John-Kamen, T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Cooke, Tye Sheridan, and Kiera Bell. You can watch the first official-trailer below.
“Ready Player One” marks a return to Warner Bros. for Spielberg, who previously directed the studio’s “Empire of the Sun,” “The Color Purple” and “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” in addition to producing the hits “Gremlins” and “The Goonies.” A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures, “Ready Player One” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
If you want to set a reminder, “Ready Player One” is scheduled to release on March 30, 2018. Other big hitters releasing that month are “Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time” from director Ava DuVernay, and “Tomb Raider” starring Alicia Vikander.
