Freeform came to New York Comic-Con with a full-schedule ready for fans and the network didn’t disappoint. Freeform’s panel presentations at NYCC included “Shadowhunters” and “Beyond,” and the network had a ton of announcements ready for their new series “Siren” as well.
Freeform confirmed that season 2 of “Beyond” will premiere on January 18th, offering up a special two-hour premiere for the series. In anticipation of the season premiere, the network will also give fans a 30-minute extended sneak peek of the upcoming season on December 28th, presenting viewers with behind-the-scenes secrets and a special look at what’s to come in the new series.
There will also be a special first look at the eagerly awaited new season of “Beyond,” and executive producers Adam Nussdorf, David Eick and Tim Kring revealed that this year would focus on Holden’s struggle whether or not he wants to embrace his powers and the consequences of his actions during the last season. The producers were joined by series stars Burkely Duffield (“Holden”), Dilan Gwyn (“Willa”) and new series regular, Eden Brolin (“Charlie”), who teased their characters’ love triangle will only get more complicated.
From Imperative Entertainment and Automatik, “Beyond” is created, written and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf. Tim Kring, David Eick, Steven Adelson, Dan Friedkin, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones serve as executive producers. “Beyond” stars Burkely Duffield as Holden Matthews, Romy Rosemont as Diane Matthews, Michael McGrady as Tom Matthews, Jonathan Whitesell as Luke Matthews, Dilan Gwyn as Willa, Jeff Pierre as Jeff McArdle and Eden Brolin as Charlie Singer.
As for the mega-hit “Shadowhunters,” the series will return for Season 3 on April 3rd. At the “Shadowhunters” panel, EPs and cast gave fans an exclusive first look at season three and confirmed that the new season will include 10 additional episodes. The network also announced that broadway star Javier Muñoz (‘Hamilton’) and Actress Anna Hopkins (‘Arrow’) will be joining the cast in the new season. Muñoz and Hopkins will guest star in season three as two new adversaries for our Shadowhunters crew – this season’s main villain, Lilith, played by Anna Hopkins (“Arrow”) and a rival warlock for Magnus Bane played by Javier Muñoz (“Hamilton”).
“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, McG and Matt Hastings. The series stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Herondale, Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway, Alisha Wainwright as Maia Roberts and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane.
Freeform also announced that their new original drama “Siren” will premiere on March 29, with a special two-hour episode. The panel also confirmed the casting of Aylya Marzoff (“Grandfathered”) and Sedale Threatt Jr. (“Hap and Leonard”) who will both join the cast in recurring roles. Marzoff will portray Katrina, an alpha leader of the mermaid colony, while Threatt Jr. will portray Levi, a warrior merman with an imposing presence.
In “Siren,” the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids, is turned upside down when a mysterious girl (Eline Powell) appears and begins wreaking havoc upon the small fishing town. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land.
“Siren” is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who both serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell (“Finding Carter”) serves as showrunner and executive producer. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb also serve as executive producers.
