Netflix released a new trailer for “The Punisher,” and Frank Castle finally has his iconic gear and a new mission. The video was released earlier today, but Netflix is still playing coy with the release date for the new series.

The first official season for the spinoff will continue the story of Frank Castle. After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone. The series is set to debut on Netflix on 2017, but Netflix has not confirmed the date at this time.

“The Punisher” was not originally designed to have his own series on Netflix, but the fans just loved him too much. The character was so popular when it debuted in “Daredevil: Season 2,” that Netflix decided to give him his own spinoff series. Netflix and Marvel originally planned to have the four-series (“Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist”) introduce themselves and then become “The Defenders,” but The Punisher doesn’t play by the rules.

Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role as Frank Castle. Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) will be serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes. “Marvel’s The Punisher” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. The last we checked-in on “The Punisher” was when the series met with fans at SDCC earlier this summer, fans can watch the official trailer for the season below.

Hopefully we will get a release date for the new Marvel series soon, though with Netflix and Disney splitting up in the future, it’s unclear what will happen to “The Punisher” season 2. We will just have to wait for an official word from Netflix.
