Cartoon Network added a new Powerpuff Girl to the mix, turning the popular trio into a quartet. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup unveiled an all-new, superpowered, fourth Powerpuff Girl during “The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four” movie this week, and her name is Bliss.

The movie-event, which introduced the super-powered older sister, premiered on Cartoon Network earlier this weekend. The story will be told in five-parts, explaining the backstory of the long-lost sister that has returned to Townsville. In the event, the Powerpuff Girls’ life as superheroes is turned upside down—and all four Powerpuff Girls must band together and use their strengths and smarts to save their beloved city of Townsville from forces of evil that are bigger than ever.

The new reboot of the popular animated-show still follows Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as they regularly save the citizens of Townsville as The Powerpuff Girls. The three sisters are often juggling school, homework and a regular parade of villains. They usually have no trouble mopping up evil with their superpowers and utilizing their superhero teamwork. The Powerpuff Girls also get assistance from Professor Utonium and the Mayor of Townsville from time to time.

Behind the scenes the show is produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with Nick Jennings (Adventure Time, SpongeBob SquarePants) serving as executive producer and Bob Boyle (Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) as co-executive producer. The initial run of The Powerpuff Girls, created by Craig McCracken, premiered in 1996 and earned two Emmy Awards along with five nominations and countless animation honors throughout its 78-episodes. The series also spawned a feature film with Warner Bros. Pictures in 2002. That film went on to make over $11.4M domestically, before pulling-in over $16.4M worldwide.

The show, including the original series, has been a tremendous hit over the years, bringing in over $2.5 billion in retail sales. The Powerpuff Girls is one of the top-grossing Cartoon Network brands of all time, and have spawned toys, apparel, books, accessories and more.
