Halloween is just around the corner and that means a wide-array of horror-thrillers will be hitting the box-office over the next few weeks. If you are a fan of the genre then this is probably your favorite time of the year to hit the theaters, and this year is shaping up to be quite the fright-fest.

The frightful season is kicking-off with the new adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT” on September 8, 2017. “IT” was directed by Andy Muschietti and the screenplay was written by Chase Palmer and Cary Fukunaga. The film itself stars Bill SkarsgĂ„rd, Jaeden Lieberher, and Finn Wolfhard, and is easily one of the biggest releases hitting theaters this year. If you haven’t read the book ($8 on Amazon) the story focuses on a group of children living in the town of Derry, Maine. Normally a quiet town, children begin to disappear and an evil clown named Pennywise begins to terrorize the remaining children.

Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” will be the next major thriller to be released in theaters. The film certainly has the most star-power going into the season, not only was the film written and directed by Aronofsky, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Domhnall Gleeson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Javier Bardem, and Ed Harris. Aronofsky told fans that they should go into “mother!” without knowing what the story is about, but if you want a general idea, the story focuses on a couple and their relationship after uninvited guests arrive at their home. The thriller is set to hit theaters on September 15, 2017.

You may not have heard of “Friend Request” yet, but a new trailer was released earlier today. The film stars Alycia Debnam-Carey (AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead), William Mosely (E!’s The Royals) and Connor Paolo (ABC’s Revenge, The CW’s Gossip Girl), and the film will release nationwide September 22nd. A teen horror-thriller through and through, “Friend Request” picks up after a girl “unfriends” a mysterious girl online. Soon after the unfriending, the girl is haunted by the supernatural.

On September 29th the “Flatliners” remake will hit theaters. The film was directed by Niels Arden Oplev, and stars Diego Luna, Ellen Page, and Kiefer Sutherland. “Flatliners” follows a group of medical students who are stopping their hearts for science, all with hopes of glimpsing the afterlife. As you can imagine, things go horribly wrong for everyone involved.

If you’ve been watching YouTube videos these past few days then you probably have already have seen the trailer for “Happy Death Day,” a film that has been advertising heavily on the platform. The horror-thriller was directed by Christopher Landon and stars Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, and Ruby Modine. The film will release on Friday the 13th, for the extra scares, and should give teens all around the country something to do that day. In “Happy Death Day” a girl is reliving the same birthday over and over again, but she is being hunted and killed each time by a mysterious stranger.

For readers looking for an intense, more realistic thriller, keep “The Snowman” on your radar. The thriller was directed by Tomas Alfredson, and stars Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Moviegoers will follow Detective Harry Hole as he investigates a Serial killer named ‘The Snowman’.

Classic horror fans can look forward to “Jigsaw,” the latest installment to the popular “Saw” franchise on October 27, 2017.
