A Double Dose of the Doctor

With all of the excitement following BBC America’s confirmation of Jodie Whittaker as the next Doctor, and the eventual heartbreak involved in knowing that we will have to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi, the special Christmas Episode hasn’t been getting enough attention. BBC America remedied that situation today, releasing a brand-new teaser trailer for the ‘Twice Upon a Time’ episode at San Diego Comic-Con.

The network setup the new trailer adding, “This Christmas, the Doctor, the Doctor, and Bill will return in ‘Twice Upon A Time’.” It was unclear if we would see more of Bill in the new episode, as her character seemed to hit a farewell moment in the season finale. We won’t spoil any of it for you, but really, you should have watched it by now.

Peter Capaldi (the Doctor), Pearl Mackie (Bill), Matt Lucas (Nardole), Michelle Gomez (Missy), writer and actor Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and showrunner Steven Moffat (Sherlock) were in Hall H at SDCC this weekend. The cast and creatives gathered to meet with fans and talk about the upcoming new season. The panel itself was moderated by Chris Hardwick, and sadly this will be the final Christmas special starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and written by Emmy-winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat. You can watch the first teaser-trailer for the very special Christmas episode below.

In the new season, the role of the Doctor will be played by Jodie Whittaker, fans might know Whittaker from “Attack The Block” and “Broadchurch”. Whittaker will be the first-ever female Doctor, and she will be taking the role from Peter Capaldi who announced that he would be leaving the series last year to work on other projects.

BBC America also brought along the popular series “Dirk Gently,” and stars of the show released the first teaser for the second season.
