Netflix brings ‘The Defenders’ and ‘The Punisher’ to SDCC
So much Marvel
Netflix unleashed a new trailer for “The Defenders” at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, giving Marvel fans new scenes to enjoy and a lot of action to hold them over while they wait for the new season. The series will be the combined efforts of “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” and “Luke Cage,” and will become available to Netflix subscribers starting on August 18, 2017.
This isn’t the first trailer released for the new series, but it is probably the most exciting. As we mentioned before, “Marvel’s The Defenders” follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) on a brand-new set of adventures and heroics. They will form the quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. Netflix teases the story adding, “This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.” Fans can watch the latest trailer below.
“The Punisher” was so popular during his debut in “Daredevil: Season 2” that Netflix decided to give him his own spinoff series. “The Punisher” series wasn’t part of the original plan when Netflix devised the four-series introduction that would become “The Defenders,” so it will be interesting to see where the series goes in its first season. Jon Bernthal will be reprising his role as Frank Castle. Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) will be serving as Executive Producer and Showrunner in addition to writing the series’ first two episodes. “Marvel’s The Punisher” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. Netflix released a very NSFW trailer for the new series to kick-off the event, but that video hasn’t been released to the public at this time.
During SDCC it was also confirmed that “Iron Fist” would be getting a second-season, so Finn Jones fans can look forward to that in the near future. Of the new series “Jessica Jones” and “Daredevil” were the best reviewed by critics, though “Luke Cage” is a very popular addition to the catalog. “Iron Fist” was the only series that seemed to struggle, but Netflix is bringing it back for another season.
