Universal Pictures released the first trailer for “The Snowman” this week, the film will hit theaters later this fall. The thriller stars Michael Fassbender (X-Men series), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence), Val Kilmer (Heat) and Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash). “The Snowman” was directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), and is based on Jo Nesbø’s global bestseller ($8 on Amazon).

In the story, an elite crime squad’s lead detective (Fassbender) investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter. The case points to an elusive serial killer that may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit (Ferguson), the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.

The Snowman is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (The Theory of Everything, Les Misérables), as well as Piodor Gustafsson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Robyn Slovo (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). A Working Title production—in association with Another Park Film—the thriller is executive produced by Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson, Martin Scorsese, Alfredson, Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger.

The film was shot entirely on location in Norway in the cities of Oslo and Bergen and the area of Rjukan. Fans can watch the first official-trailer below.

Fassbender is expected to reprise his role of Magneto in “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” in 2018. The film will be written and directed by Simon Kinberg, and will star Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Alexandra Shipp. Also expected to appear in the film are Jessica Chastain, and Olivia Munn. If everything goes according to plan, the new X-MEN installment will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
