Cara Delevingne and Rihanna light up the ‘Valerian’ red-carpet
Valerian gets a star-studded debut
“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” hits theaters this weekend, and the cast and crew hit the red-carpet to celebrate with fans and friends. Attending the event this week were the stars of the film, Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Rihanna, along with the film’s director Luc Besson. Also in attendance were Kendall Jenner, Anna Wood, Natalie Morales, Skai Jackson, Stefanie Scott, Kat Graham, Sasha Luss, and Pauline Hoarau. “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” hits theaters on July 21, 2017.
The sci-fi epic has released a few trailers and promotional videos for fans over the last few months. Moviegoers only have a few more days of waiting ahead of them at this point, the film will open against “Dunkirk” and the adult-comedy “Girls Trip”.
Luc Besson directed the film, which stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, and features Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu, and Rutger Hauer. The screenplay was also written by Luc Besson, and the film itself is based on the comic book series “Valerian and Laureline” by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières.
In the past Luc Besson directed “The Professional,” “The Fifth Element,” and “Lucy,” which have been extremely popular with fans. “Valerian” takes place in the 28th century, where Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
