Charlize Theron was the definition of #AtomicBlonde during the world premiere of her new film in Berlin this week. The popular actor was dressed in white Christian Dior as she met with fans and spoke with the press. Fans lined the streets for hours ahead of the premiere, hoping to get a glimpse or a photo with Theron and co-star Sofia Boutella. Both actors were in attendance for the event, which will kick-off the summer blockbuster.
The highly-anticipated action thriller follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city, all while it is on the brink of a revolution. Along her path she will have to deal with double-crossing traitors, spies, and assassins on route to her main objective. Theron plays Agent Lorraine Broughton of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service. The studio describes the character as “equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission”. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.
The studio went on to describe the film calling it a “blistering blend of sleek action, gritty sexuality and dazzling style” Atomic Blonde was directed by David Leitch (John Wick, upcoming Deadpool 2). The film also stars John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones. The film is based on the Oni Press graphic novel series “The Coldest City,” ($10 at Amazon) by Antony Johnston & illustrator Sam Hart. Kurt Johnstad (300) wrote the screenplay. Fans will have to wait another two-weeks before “Atomic Blonde” hits theaters, but in the meantime “Dunkirk,” “Girls Trip,” and “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” will hit theaters. “Atomic Blonde” will release alongside “The Emoji Movie” on July 28, 2018.
