‘The Disaster Artist’ Trailer: James Franco becomes Tommy Wiseau
I did naaaaaught!
A24 has released the first official-trailer for “The Disaster Artist,” which will be hitting theaters this December. The film was directed by James Franco, working from a screenplay written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.
With an all-star cast and a long list of cameos, the film offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 film “The Room”. The original film, which is often considered to be one of the worst films ever made, has become a cult-classic with a growing fanbase. James Franco will star as the infamous director Tommy Wiseau, and the story is an adaptation of the book of the same name ($9 at Amazon). Don’t confuse “The Room” with A24’s 2015 hit “Room,” which was an award-winning film starring Brie Larson.
“The Room” has been a hit with comics over the years, and if you want to watch it I suggest watching the Rifftrax version (with the previous cast of MST3K) to get through it. Once you are done, you can listed to the “How Did This Get Made?” podcast (a personal favorite) for more insight on the film. The HDTGM episode features the author of the book (and former star of “The Room”) Greg Sestero as a special guest. The HDTGM cast (Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas) are also featured in “The Disaster Artist”. Tommy Wiseau is also expected to make an appearance.
“The Disaster Artist” will also feature Alison Brie, Kate Upton, Zoey Deutch, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Eliza Coupe, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Sharon Stone, Randall Park, and Casey Wilson. In the cameos section, you can expect to find Zach Braff, Adam Scott, Bryan Cranston, Kristen Bell, Lizzy Caplan, and J.J. Abrams.
