It’s almost showtime over at 20th Century FOX, the studio released the first trailer for “The Greatest Showman” this week, a musical that will hit theaters later this winter. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya, and will feature new and original songs by the Academy Award winning lyricists of “La La Land,” Benj Pasek & Justin Paul.
The musical was directed by Michael Gracey, working from a story written by Jenny Bicks. The screenplay for the film was also written by Jenny Bicks, along with Bill Condon. The project was produced by Laurence Mark, Peter Chernin, and Jenno Topping.
The studio teased the film stating, “Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, “The Greatest Showman” is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.” The wonderful cast is sure to help draw a few crowds of their own of course.
This will be Hugh Jackman’s follow-up to “Logan,” which had a massive $618M worldwide gross in theaters this year. Michelle Williams is coming off her stellar performance in “Manchester by the Sea,” which grossed $62M at the limited box-office and won several major awards. As for the younger cast, Zendaya is set to launch “Spider-Man: Homecoming” this holiday weekend, and Zac Efron is probably hoping we all forgot about “Baywatch” by now.
