Netflix has added a familiar face to the company’s upcoming teen-comedy “Alexa & Katie,” the company confirmed today that Tiffani Thiessen (Saved by the Bell, Dinner at Tiffani’s, White Collar) has been cast in the Netflix series as Lori. The character has been described as “the determined and protective mother of one of the lead characters”.
If you haven’t been following along, “Alexa & Katie” is a multi-cam comedy about two lifelong best friends eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year of highschool. In the series the two friends confront a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders, at a time when what seems to matter most is fitting in.
Netflix announced earlier this year that Paris Berelc (Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) will star as Alexa, and newcomer Isabel May, will be playing the role of Katie. Berelc has a long-standing career under the Disney tent. Not only has the actor appeared in “Mighty Med” and “Lab Rats,” she was also featured in “Disney 365,” and the TV-movie “Invisible Sister”. Fans might also remember Berelc in “WTH: Welcome to Howler”. She will also appear in “#SquadGoals,” another high-school drama from director Danny J. Boyle. That project will also feature Corey Fogelmanis, Pedro Correa and Kennedy Lea Slocum.
“Alexa & Katie” was created by Heather Wordham (Hannah Montana, Reba). Matthew Carlson (Malcolm in the Middle, Samantha Who?) serves as showrunner. Both Wordham and Carlson are executive producers. The 13-episode, first season will be produced by Netflix. If the show is even have as successful as “Reba,” “Malcom in the Middle,” or “Hannah Montana,” Netflix can count on a long-list of seasons with the series.
Netflix hasn’t confirmed an exact release window for the series at this time, and more casting announcements are expected over the next few months. The video-streaming service will also release a teaser-trailer before the big premiere.
