Earlier today 20th Century Fox released the first trailer for the drama “The Mountain Between Us,” directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad. The film stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba.

The story picks up after two strangers are stranded after a tragic plane crash. Following the crash, they must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. The two survivors embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness discovering strength they never knew possible. The film won’t hit theaters until October 20, 2017, but you can get an early look at the film thanks to the trailer below.

As we mentioned earlier, the film was directed by Hany Abu-Assad, working off a screenplay written by Chris Weitz and J. Mills Goodloe. The film is based on the popular novel written by Charles Martin ($9 at Amazon). Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping produced the film, which also features Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney.

The film will release into a crowded box-office, an extremely crowded box-office actually. The Warner Bros. Pictures action-thriller “Geostorm” is opening that same weekend, though that won’t be the biggest challenge for this film. “Geostorm” did release a trailer earlier this year, and the film stars Gerard Butler, Abbie Cornish, and Andy Garcia. A bigger threat will most likely be the drama “Granite Mountain Hotshots,” which will star Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch ,and James Badge Dale. The high-profile drama is also set to compete with “The Mountain Between Us,” though the film may be moved to a less-crowded weekend before release. Studios are still waiting to see who will blink first, as “Same Kind of Different as Me,”The Snowman,” “Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween,” “War with Grandpa” and “Wonderstruck” are all set to open that same weekend.
