DreamWorks Animation has set a home box-office release date for the hit animated-film “The Boss Baby”. The comedy will release on Digital HD on July 4, 2017, with the Blu-ray and DVD versions releasing on July 25 (starting at $19 at Amazon). In the film seven-year-old Tim Templeton suddenly finds his share of parental love plummeting when his new baby brother (Alec Baldwin) arrives. The baby, wearing a suit and toting a briefcase, makes it clear to everyone that he’s in charge. But when Tim discovers that Boss Baby is on a secret mission, he reluctantly agrees to team up with his pint sized sibling for an epic adventure that might just change the world.
From the director of the successful Madagascar franchise, Tom McGrath, comes a the film focusess on family and belonging. In addition to Alec Baldwin, “The Boss Baby” features the voice talents of a stellar cast including Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi and Tobey Maguire.
The special-edition comes loaded with bonus features including the NEW Mini Adventure, a 3-minute journey through time featuring Boss Baby and Tim. Kids can follow along as Boss Baby and Tim battle pirates, travel through outer space, swim deep into the sea, and go toe-to-toe with some ferocious dinosaurs. Additional bonus materials include featurettes like “Cookies are for Closers: Inside BabyCorp,” there are a few deleted scenes to watch and a lot more.
The film opened at number-one at the domestic box-office with an amazing $50M debut. The animated-comedy continued to be a runaway hit for the studio throughout the spring. Including this past weekend, the has grossed over $166M domestically, and over $469M worldwide. The film even remained on the top-ten list on the domestic-charts this past weekend at the box-office, bringing in another $2.8M across 2,071 locations. Not bad considering it went against the new Aliens film, and Guardians 2.
