Though this Spider-Man film is part of Sony Pictures, the film will share the same Marvel Universe that has been dominating the box-office for the past few years. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” will open against “City of Ghosts,” “A Ghost Story” and “Patti Cake$,” but no other major-releases will compete against the film. Spider-Man will have to battle “War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Wish Upon” the following week.
In this Spider-Man installment a young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) heads back to NYC after the events in “Captain America: Civil War”. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). The studio teases the film stating, “Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.”
The film was directed by Jon Watts, and was produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee served as the film’s Executive Producer. The screenplay was written by Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
