Netflix teases ‘The Dark Crystal’ Prequel Series
Based on the Jim Henson creation
Parents that loved the original fantasy-drama ‘The Dark Crystal’ back in 1982 can introduce the franchise to their children thanks to a new prequel series picked-up by Netflix.
The original film, simply called ‘The Dark Crystal,’ was directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, and the screenplay was written by David Odell. The film is based on an original story written by Jim Henson. Not only did Henson write and direct the film, he also starred in the project, alongside Frank Oz, as a performer.
Netflix teases the prequel stating, “Rediscover the age of wonder inspired by Jim Henson’s groundbreaking vision.” The new Netflix original series is going by the title ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ and is “coming soon” according to Netflix. While the video-streaming service stoped short of announcing a release date, the company did release a teaser-trailer for the series. The trailer offers insight about the making of the original series, with interviews from Jim Henson, and shows how the characters were crafted and the world of ‘The Dark Crystal’ was brought to life. Fans of the original film should check out the trailer below, which shows a lot of the original artwork and puppets that were used to create the original 80s hit.
“The Dark Crystal” opened at #3 in theaters, behind ‘Tootsie’ and ‘The Toy,” but did go on to make over $40M at the domestic box-office. Still no release date at this time, but a premiere date, and a few trailers for the project, are expected to drop over the next few weeks.
