Blizzard will be celebrating one-year of payloads, ultimates, and play-of-the-games with an Overwatch Anniversary event. The studio also announced a new ‘free weekend’ weekend for fans, and a brand-new ‘Game of the Year Edition’.
The big announcement this week was the event tied to the upcoming one-year anniversary of Overwatch, which will be this summer’s big seasonal event. Going by the name ‘Overwatch Anniversary,’ the event will also sponsor a free weekend for anyone that hasn’t bought the game yet, and a ‘Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition’ packed with content. The Overwatch Anniversary Event will begin on Tuesday, May 23. To get ready for the celebration, the Overwatch team has created a “Year in Review” trailer, which is available below. The new seasonal event logo is a new illustration featuring all 24 heroes.
In addition to Overwatch Anniversary event, Blizzard’s new free weekend will be held from May 26 through May 29. For this free weekend, the studio will be making Overwatch’s full roster of heroes and maps available for play in a variety of modes, including Quick Play, Custom Games, and the latest Weekly Brawl. Players will also be able to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock a variety of different customization options. If players decide to purchase a copy of Overwatch after the free weekend, they’ll get to keep any progress made during the weekend. The previous event was a throwback to the original Overwatch squad called ‘Overwatch Uprising’.
The Overwatch : Game of the Year Edition will launch on May 23, and Blizzard will be releasing the digital version of Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The Game of the Year Edition will include a variety of in-game goodies for Blizzard games including:
