Sony released the first trailer for the upcoming adaptation of “Stephen King’s The Dark Tower,” giving fans a first-look at the upcoming action-adventyre project. The studio calls the new film an “ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors,” and the film will first hit theaters in August of this year.
In the film, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) is the last of the Gunslingers, and he has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). The Man in Black is determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together, and the battle continues. The studio teases the film stating, “With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black”.
The adaptation was directed by Nikolaj Arcel, working off a screenplay written by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Anders Thomas Jensen and Nikolaj Arcel also worked on the script to the film, which is based on the popular story by Stephen King. Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins produced the film, and G. Mac Brown served as executive producer on the project.
