Amazon has finally set a premiere date for “The Tick,” a superhero comedy from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Prime Video. Older readers may remember that “The Tick” was both an animated-comedy, and a short-lived live action series in the past. Both of those installments came from Ben Edlund, and the first live-action adaptation starred Patrick Warburton, David Burke, and Liz Vassey. Ben Edlund is returning to the franchise, he will serve as an Executive Producer and writer on the new series. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are also EPs on the project, which was directed by Wally Pfister.

Now ‘The Tick’ is suiting up once again, with a new cast on a new platform. The show is set to premiere on August 25th on Amazon Prime Video, and the pilot can be previewed if you’re a Prime Subscriber. If you are, then you can preview the first pilot episode here on Amazon. The show follows an underdog accountant with zero powers who comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero. The pilot for The Tick starred Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin) and Brendan Hines (Scorpion). The Tick is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. Amazon released a quick teaser-promo for the series, which you can watch below.

While not a gigantic hit, the original animated-version did introduce the character to a generation that could tune into the new show. The series ran from 1994 through 1996 and was part of Fox’s popular Kids Block. The show piggybacked on the growing success of “Animaniacs,” “Freakazoid,” and the spinoff “Pink and the Brain” which gained its own show after reoccurring on “Animaniacs” (narf).
