This week the cast and crew of “The Circle” attended the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, the group was there to promote the new thriller, and meet with their adoring fans. The screening was held at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, all ahead of this weekend’s big debut in theaters nationwide. Among those that attended the event were stars Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, Karen Gillan, and the film’s director James Ponsoldt.

The film itself takes place in the near-future, and is a modern thriller that focuses on the possible dangers we all face with the over-sharing of personal information, and the data we willingly (and sometimes unknowingly) give to major social-networks. Joining Emma Watson (“Harry Potter”) and Tom Hanks (“Sully”) in the film is John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”).

When Mae (Emma Watson) is hired to work for the world’s largest and most powerful tech & social media company, she sees it as an opportunity of a lifetime. As she rises through the ranks, she is encouraged by the company’s founder, Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks), to engage in a groundbreaking experiment that pushes the boundaries of privacy, ethics and ultimately her personal freedom. Her participation in the experiment, and every decision she makes begin to affect the lives and future of her friends, family and that of humanity.

Emma Watson is coming off “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,” which has currently grossed over $472M domestically and over $1.1B worldwide. John Boyega recently starred in another Disney film you may have seen, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. That installment grossed over $936M domestically, and over $2B worldwide. Hanks’ latest acting role was “Inferno,” a film that grossed over $220M worldwide, but fell short of the “The Da Vinci Code” $758M worldwide gross.

“The Circle” is set to open in theaters on April 28, 2017, it will be opening against the limited-release debut of the comedy “How to be a Latin Lover,” and the thriller “Sleight”.
