The cast and crew of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” hit the red-carpet this week to celebrate the world-premiere of the upcoming summer blockbuster. Among those in attendance was the director James Gunn, and actors Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.

The film, which will bring with it the Awesome Mixtape #2 soundtrack, will explore the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. The sequel also features Dave Bautista, the voice talents of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, and actors Karen Gillan, Kurt Russell, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff and Michael Rooker.

The original film released in August 2014, which is normally a slow month within the summer schedule. The film’s $94M opening destroyed early predictions, and the August release-model along with it. “Guardians of the Galaxy 1” went on to make $333M domestically, and over $773M worldwide. The franchise has quickly become one of the more popular Marvel installments, and even outgrossed “Ant-Man” ($519M) and “Captain America: Winter Soldier” ($714M).

The Guardians will return for a third-installment, but first will appear in “Avenger’s: Infinity War,” directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The Guardians will meet their Avenger brethren, with actors Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner and Paul Bettany all reprising their roles for the installment. They will all battle Josh Brolin’s “Thanos” character, and its being reported that Brie Larson’s new Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel role will be included in the film. You can watch a recap of the world-premiere below.

The soundtrack for the film has been a best-seller for the last few weeks, and will release in just a few days ($9 on Amazon). Earlier this month Marvel teased “Thor: Ragnarok,” releasing a trailer featuring Thor and the Hulk. That film was directed by Taika Waititi, working from a story written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost. “Thor: Ragnarok” will star Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, Jaimie Alexander, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo and Tessa Thompson.
