Netflix detailed the new ‘Carmen Sandiego’ reboot that the video-streaming platform has planned. The new animated-series is expected to launch on Netflix in 2019. The company confirmed that Gina Rodriguez will voice the lead character of Carmen Sandiego in the show, she will be joined by actor Finn Wolfhard.

In the upcoming animated-series ,produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Carmen Sandiego will return for a brand-new crop of international capers. All of which will be packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue. Netflix stated, “This fresh take presents an intimate look into Carmen’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego and WHY she became a super thief.”

Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) will voice Carmen Sandiego, and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) will voice Player, Carmen’s chief accomplice and friend. Also confirmed was Duane Capizzi (The Batman), who will serve as co-executive producer and showrunner. CJ Kettler (The Tick) is executive producer, while Caroline Fraser is set to be the executive in charge of production. Visual design for the show will be handled by Kevin Dart (Mr. Peabody & Sherman) and Chromosphere.

Season one of the reboot will consist of 20 episodes, all of them 22-minutes each. The animated series is produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for Netflix and will premiere in 2019.

Gina Rodriguez will also lend her voice to the animated-film “Ferdinand” in 2017. That project was directed by Carlos Saldanha, and based on the book by Munro Leaf. Joining Rodriguez in that film are Kate McKinnon, John Cena and David Tennant. The film follows Ferdinand the bull, after he is taken from his family after being considered too dangerous to keep near the town. The bull joins a ragtag team to reunite himself with his family and friends. Rodriguez will voicing the role of Una in the film, which is set to release later this winter.
