FOX has already begun teasing “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” expected to hit theaters this September. The film will be the follow-up to “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” which grossed over $414M for the studio back in 2015. Tonight the studio released the first official trailer, which fans of the franchise can watch below thanks to an upload from FOX.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman, an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” the heroes will face a brand-new challenge, and a few new characters. The studio teases the story stating,”When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy.” The studio added, “in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy.”
The new installment was directed by Matthew Vaughn, working off a script that he wrote with Jane Goldman. The series is based on the comic book “The Secret Service” by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Starring in the sequel are Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Sir Elton John, Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges.
The sequel will see most of the creative team returning, since Matthew Vaughn both wrote and directed the previous installment. Colin Firth and Taron Egerton both appeared in the first film as well, so fans will get a genuine sequel this fall when the film releases. While the 2015 release was certainly a hit, the film did not open at number-one. FOX released the film the same weekend as Universal’s “Fifty Shades of Grey,” so it had to settle for number-two at the box-office that week.
