Syfy officially announced a season 3 pickup, including 13 episodes, of the popular Universal Cable Productions drama “The Magicians”. The series has done quite well in its sophomore season, performing better in season two than it did a year before. To date, Season 2 is up year over year across all key demos, and has nearly doubled its freshman run in social engagements across platforms. The sophomore season currently airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Syfy, and the finale will air on April 19. Fans of the series can now look forward to Season 3 in 2018 thanks to the new order from Syfy.

Based on Lev Grossman’s bestselling novels, “The Magicians” centers on Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) and his 20-something friends as they are thrust into the unfamiliar world of the beautifully enchanting yet mysteriously dangerous Fillory – and places beyond – where they must draw upon their novice skills to save the existence of magic.

“The Magicians” stars Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy and Jade Tailor. The series is executive produced by John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Chris Fisher and Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams.

Recently Syfy confirmed the network’s summer schedule. On the list this year are the grindhouse series “Blood Drive” and a bunch of returning series. This summer the network will also premiere “Sharknado 5,” and the network will continue its strong presence at San Diego Comic-Con.

Other shows confirmed for the summer schedule include the drama “12 Monkeys,” and the popular series “Dark Matter”. The series based on the IDW Publishing comic book created by Beau Smith, “Wyonna Earp,” will also premiere this summer. Other shows include “Face Off” and “Kill Joys”. Syfy fans can find the premiere dates for those shows on the official summer announcement, as well as details on the cast and crew that will be returning to each of the series.
