A new high-school comedy is coming to Netflix, the streaming service confirmed this week that it has picked-up over a dozen episodes of the new series. Netflix also announced the lead-cast, and announced the title for the show, which will be called “Alexa & Katie”. The show will be a multi-cam comedy, following two lifelong bffs eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year of high-school. In the series the duo confront a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders, at a time when what seems to matter most is fitting in.
Netflix announced that Paris Berelc (Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) will star as Alexa, and newcomer Isabel May, will be playing the role of Katie. Berelc has a long-standing career under the Disney tent. Not only has the actor appeared in “Mighty Med” and “Lab Rats,” she was also featured in “Disney 365,” and the TV-movie “Invisible Sister”. Fans might also remember Berelc in “WTH: Welcome to Howler”. She will also appear in “#SquadGoals,” another high-school drama from director Danny J. Boyle. That project will also feature Corey Fogelmanis, Pedro Correa and Kennedy Lea Slocum.
“Alexa & Katie” was created by Heather Wordham (Hannah Montana, Reba). Matthew Carlson (Malcolm in the Middle, Samantha Who?) serves as showrunner. Both Wordham and Carlson are executive producers. The 13-episode, first season will be produced by Netflix. If the show is even have as successful as “Reba,” “Malcom in the Middle,” or “Hannah Montana,” Netflix can count on a long-list of seasons with the series.
Netflix did not announce the supporting cast at this time, but more information on the series is expected to be announced as the show enters into production. Netflix also stopped short of announcing a release-window for the high-school series, but that information is usually saved for the first teaser-trailer. At least that’s how Netflix likes to announce things these days.
