The cast and crew of Universal’s “Fate of the Furious” descended upon New York City this weekend, celebrating the premiere with thousands of the franchise’s biggest fans. The highly anticipated installment will hit theaters on April 14, 2017, and is expected to rule the box-office throughout the month of April.

The film has quite the expanded the cast, bringing back Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. The eighth installment will also add Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Scott Eastwood, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. “Fate of the Furious” was directed by F. Gary Gray, working off a script written by Chris Morgan. The previous installment, “Furious 7,” one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide in box-office history, and “F7” was also the sixth-biggest global title of all time.

IGN hosted the NYC premiere this weekend, bringing the cast and crew to the big-apple to meet with fans and hype up the film’s release in theaters. Among the cast and crew that attended the event were Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris Bridges. “Furious 7” left a high-bar for “Fate of the Furious,” grossing over $353M domestically and leaving theaters after reaching over $1.5B worldwide. “F8” won’t have any competition in theaters next weekend, but films like “Unforgettable” and “The Promise” will open the following week. The studio teased the new story stating, “Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.”

“The Fate of the Furious” will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
