TWC released a new trailer for “3 Generations” this weekend, a film that the studio is currently battling the MPAA to lower the film’s R-rating. “3 Generations” is set to release in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, May 5, 2017.
The film tells the touching story of three generations of a family living under one roof in New York as they deal with the life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray (Elle Fanning) is a teenager who has struggled with the body assigned to him at birth and is determined to start transitioning. His single mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts), must track down Ray’s biological father (Tate Donovan) to get his legal consent to allow Ray’s transition. Dolly (Susan Sarandon), Ray’s lesbian grandmother is having a hard time accepting that she now has a grandson. They must each confront their own identities and learn to embrace change and their strength as a family in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding. You can watch the first trailer for the film below, thanks to an early upload from the studio on YouTube.
The film was directed by Gaby Dellal, working from a script co-written with Nikole Beckwith. The project was produced by Dorothy Berwin, Gaby Dellal, Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf. Joining Naomi Watts, Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon in the film are Sam Trammell, Linda Emond and Tate Donovan.
Elle Fanning has been working non-stop over the last few years, taking roles in “20th Century Women,” “The Neon Demon,” the animated tale “Leap,” “Trumbo” and “Maleficent”. The popular young actor has several upcoming films in the works, including “Mary Shelley” with GoT star Maisie Williams, and “How to Talk to Girls at Parties” with Nicole Kidman and Ruth Wilson. Fanning will also star in the musical-drama “Teen Spirit,” written and directed by Max Minghella.
