Open Road Films has set a release date for the romantic-comedy “Home Again,” which will star Reese Witherspoon. The film will now release on September 8, 2017 against the Warner Bros. Pictures’ horror-thriller “It,” giving moviegoers another option when heading to their local cinema.
The film was written by Hallie Meyers-Shyer and is being directed by Meyers-Shyer in her directorial debut. Nancy Meyers is producing alongside Black Bicycle Entertainment’s Erika Olde, who also financed the film. The release date announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films.
“Home Again” is the story of a recently separated mother of two (Witherspoon) whose new life in Los Angeles is overturned when she decides to take in three young, charismatic guys (played by Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff and Jon Rudnitsky) who become part of her unconventional family.
Along with Reese Witherspoon, Pico Alexander (A Most Violent Year), Nat Wolff (Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars) and Jon Rudnitsky (upcoming Relatively Happy), the film stars Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, Masters Of Sex), Candice Bergen and Lake Bell (No Escape, Childrens Hospital). IMR International is handling the international sales of the film.
Witherspoon was introduced to a whole new generation of viewers recently on the HBO hit series “Big Little Lies,” on that show Witherspoon played the role of Madeline Martha Mackenzie. Recently Witherspoon voiced the role of Rosita in the animated-comedy “Sing,” and will have a substantial role in the upcoming “Tinker Bell” movie. Witherspoon is also set to tackle the role of Mrs. Whatsit in the new adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time”. That film will be directed by Ava DuVernay, working off a screenplay written by Jennifer Lee. The film is based on the classic novel by Madeleine L’Engle. Joining Witherspoon in the film are Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis, Rowan Blanchard, Levi Miller, Michael Peña and Mindy Kaling.
