Netflix previews new ‘#Girlboss’ series, based on best-selling novel
Coming this later this month
Netflix released one of the first trailers for “#Girlboss” today, a series inspired by the New York Times best-selling book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso. You might recognize that name, she is the founder of the fashion brand Nasty Gal. If you haven’t picked up the book yet, available on Amazon ($5) as a bestseller, you still have time to read the original before the premiere of the new series.
The series centers on Amoruso (Britt Robertson), who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and, by the age of 28, had built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. Girlboss will launch on Netflix in April and is created and executive produced by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect 1& 2, 30 Rock), who also serves as showrunner.
Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult), Laverne McKinnonand Beth Konoof Denver & Delilah, Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Sophia Amoruso will also serve as executive producers. Ditter also directed several episodes of the series, that is a Netflix production and there will be 13-half hour episodes. Girlboss stars Britt Robertson (Sophia), Ellie Reed (Annie), Alphonso McAuley (Dax), Johnny Simmons (Shane) and Dean Norris (Jay). You can watch the first trailer released for the series below, from the official Netflix YouTube channel.
Bringing the show to Netflix will certainly help book sales for Amoruso. The popular streaming service currently hosts a customer-base of over 93.8 million members, from over 190 countries. The service estimates that more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies are streamed per day on Netflix, including original series, documentaries and feature films. This probably won’t be the last trailer released for the film, but if you read the book it does highlight the artistic approach that the series is taking with the adaptation.
If you need to set a reminder, the Netflix Original Series ‘Girlboss’ streams globally on April 21.
