Disney announced the title of Star Wars Episode VIII over two-months ago, and ever since then fans have been desperately awaiting the release of the first trailer. Disney finally released the first teaser-trailer for “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” earlier this morning, during the film’s official panel at the Star Wars Celebration event.

The event itself kicked-off yesterday in Orlando, celebrating 40 years of the iconic franchise. Among the panels, interviews, and speeches, the cast and crew also hosted a special tribute to the late Carrie Fisher. Fellow cast-mate and Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, was also in attendance yesterday. The actor wore a custom white Tom Ford dress in tribute to her mother’s Princess Leia character. “Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi” was written and directed by Rian Johnson and was produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. The film was executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski. If you weren’t able to attend the event this year, you can watch the teaser-trailer that was screened at the event.

The last film to hit theaters was the fist of the planned spin-off films. That film, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” grossed over $531M domestically before reaching $1B worldwide. That film was directed by Gareth Edwards, the screenplay was written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. “Rogue One” starred Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk.

Disney should have high-hopes for “The Last Jedi,” considering “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” hit $936.66M at the domestic box-office. The film then went on to make over $2.06B at the global box-office, and dominated the home box-office upon release. This new installment, with its returning cast and the return of Luke Skywalker to the central plot, could easily top that mark.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will feature Carrie Fisher, the film was shot before passing, as well as Daisy Ridley, Tom Hardy, Adam Driver, Billie Lourd, Mark Hamill, Gwendoline Christie, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and John Boyega. The film will be the second installment to the new trilogy, which started with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

“Star Wars The Last Jedi” is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
