‘Doctor Who’ spinoff ‘Class’ offers an exciting new trailer
Class is in session
We are only a few weeks away from the premiere of “Class,” a new spin-off series set in the “Doctor Who” universe. Season 1 of the new series is set to begin on April 15, but you can get an early look at the show thanks to a new trailer from BBC America.
The series is set in London, and is a mix of sci-fi and coming-of-age life lessons. “Class” follows four Coal Hill Academy students, which is a school with big ties to the original “Doctor Who” series. BBC explained the four students are “from opposite ends of the cafeteria’s social landscape,” and they quickly find themselves working together after “the most extraordinary of circumstances”. We don’t want to give away too much before the big premiere, so we will leave it at that.
The students form an unlikely alliance to battle, in secret, against alien threats which have broken through the walls of space and time. Of course, this is all while they battle the usual high-school pressures that plague their daily lives. The eight-part Doctor Who spin-off comes from award-winning YA writer, Class creator and executive producer, Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls), and is executive produced by the team behind Doctor Who, Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin.
BBC America describes the show stating. “Like most teenagers, these four students are facing their own worst fears, navigating a life of developing friendships, budding romance, parents, school work, sex, sorrow…not to mention, possibly the end of existence.” The network added, “Coal Hill School has been a part of the Doctor Who universe since the very beginning…but that has come at a price. Time traveling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin. There’s something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything – to bring us all into Shadow.”
Charlie (Greg Austin), April (Sophie Hopkins), Ram (Fady Elsayed) and Tanya (Vivian Oparah) – under the watchful eye of their Physics teacher Miss Quill (Katherine Kelly) – are now charged with a great responsibility by the mysterious alien known as The Doctor (Peter Capaldi): protect Coal Hill and guard against the creatures of nightmare that want nothing more than to find a way through to Earth and take it for their own.
