There’s a new ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ trailer to enjoy

War is coming

FOX released another full-length trailer for “War for the Planet of the Apes” this morning. The trailer shows a few more clips from the highly-anticipated film, and featuring a mean looking Woody Harrelson. The studio released a previous trailer back in December, the film itself won’t hit theaters until later this summer.

In the new installment, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer incredible losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. The studio teases the film stating, “As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.” Fans of the franchise can watch the trailer below, thanks to an early upload from FOX.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” was directed by Matt Reeves, and features Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary. If we ignore the Tim Burton film released in 2001, this rebooted-reboot of a franchise has been a big hit with fans. Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” grossed over $481M in theaters back in 2011, that film featured James Franco, Andy Serkis and Freida Pinto. The studio followed-up that film with “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014, which was also directed by Matt Reeves, and featured Gary Oldman and Keri Russell. The sequel was an even bigger hit for FOX, grossing over $710M.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” is set to hit theaters on July 14, 2017. The film is opening just one-week after “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and one-week before “Dunkirk” and “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”. The summer box-office is packed this year, so prep accordingly.
