Horror-thriller fans can watch a new trailer for “Wish Upon,” directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee and Mitchell Slaggert. The film won’t be out until late July, but fans of the genre can watch the new trailer below, the video was released this week by the studio. Horror fans might recognize John R. Leonetti’s name, as he is also attached to the popular “Annabelle” franchise. The film was produced by Sherryl Clark (Cloverfield).

Also featured in the film are Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Alice Lee, Kevin Hanchard and Sherilyn Fenn, the film was written Barbara Marshall.

The film picks up 12 years after Clare Shannon (Joey King) discovers her mother’s suicide. Now 17, Clare is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father Jonathan (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush.

All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes.

While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she is soon seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path. Broad Green Pictures has been behind quite a few hits these past few years, including “Neon Demon” and “Knight of Cups”. The studio recently released “Song to Song,” written and directed by Terrence Malick and featured at this year’s SXSW festival. That drama stars Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender.

“Wish Upon” is set to release on July 14, 2017.
