It was confirmed today that popular actor Bill Paxton has died at the age of 61. An Emmy-winning Actor, Paxton’s death is being attributed to complications while undergoing surgery.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” a representative from the family said in a statement. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”

Paxton’s film career included roles in popular franchises like “Alien” and “Predator,” as well as work on blockbuster hits like “Titanic,” and “Apollo 13”. Paxton also had a very successful television career, with roles on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” and a leading role on HBO’s “Big Love”.

Recently Paxton tool a leading role in the television adaptation of “Training Day”. In the series Paxton played Det. Frank Rourke, and starred alongside Justin Cornwell and Katrina Law. The show comes from creator Will Beall, and is on CBS. It’s unclear if the series will move forward without Paxton.
