As we reported earlier this month, Disney has started production on the yet-to-be-titled ‘Young Han Solo’ film. The studio began principal photography on the project back in February, at the historic Pinewood Studios in London. The film will follow the young scoundrel, and his Wookie friend, as they survive their pre-Rebellion adventures.

In the timeline of all things Star Wars, this film will take place before “Star Wars: A New Hope,” where fan first met the character Han Solo. At the time he was of course played by Harrison Ford. Also featured in the film is the character Lando Calrissian, Solo’s friend in Cloud City.

Directing this new installment are Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the cast includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Joonas Suotamo will be takin the role as Chewbacca.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

The story was written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and this film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, Simon Emanuel, and co-produced by Kiri Hart, Susan Towner, and Will Allegra.

Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin will executive produce this new installment for Disney. Bradford Young will be the Director of Photography, Chris Dickens will be lead Editor, Dominic Tuohy is the SFX Supervisor, Rob Bredow the VFX Supervisor and Brad Allan will be the Action Designer. Neal Scanlan will once again handle the job of Creature & Droid FX Creative Supervisor, Neil Lamont is the Production Designer, Dave Crossman and Glyn Dillon are Co-Costume Designers, Jamie Wilkinson is the Prop Master, Lisa Tomblin will handle Hair, Amanda Knight is on Make-Up and Nina Gold is the official UK Casting Director.

Disney also set a date for the the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story, the film will release in theaters on May 25, 2018.
