“Power Rangers” trailer offers a quick look at Bryan Cranston’s Zardon
It's Morphin' time
The “Power Rangers” are back in action with a new trailer released from Lionsgate this week. The family-friendly actioner will release in theaters later this spring, and the trailer offers a quick-glimpse of Bryan Cranston in his popular role as Zordon.
Much like the original series, “Power Rangers” follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being destroyed by an alien threat. The studio teased the story saying, “Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.”
The film was directed by Dean Israelite, working off a screenplay written by John Gatins. The film stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G and Ludi Lin. Also featured in the film are Bill Hader, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks. The film is based on the original “Power Rangers,” created by Haim Saban and Toei Company Ltd.
The most successful film in the ongoing franchise was “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” back in 1995. The film made $38.18M domestically, and went on to make over $66.43M worldwide. The sequel, released two years later called “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie,” only made $8.36M at the domestic box-office and finished its theatrical run with $9.61M total.
The reboot is bringing in some big-names, and a brand-new younger squad to bolster its chances of reigniting the film franchise. The ongoing television show, “Power Rangers Dino Super Charge,” is now in its 23rd season and doing quite well. You can watch the new trailer below, or on the official YouTube channel from the studio.
“Power Rangers” will release in theaters on March 24, 2017.
