CW renews seven series for another season
Expect the same great shows on the CW next year
If you enjoy a DC-based hit on The CW, the odds are in your favor that the show is coming back for another season. The CW Network officially announced that that it has given early renewals to seven of its primetime series, all of which will be returning for the 2017-2018 season. The announcement was made today during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. DC heroes aren’t the only popular shows coming back next year, but they do make up a large portion of the network’s primetime schedule throughout the week.
“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas,” said Pedowitz. “Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.”
The series being ordered for the 2017-2018 season include ARROW (Season 6), CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND (Season 3), DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Season 3), THE FLASH (Season 4), JANE THE VIRGIN (Season 4), SUPERGIRL (Season 3), and SUPERNATURAL (Season 13).
The CW stopped short of offering specific premiere dates for each series, but did announce that those dates will be announced at a later time. With the addition of “Supergirl,” the network saw a terrific increase in viewership with its DC-crossover event in 2016. The network paired iconic heroes and villains from “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Arrow,” creating a DCSUPERWEEK of entertainment that really connected with. On the non superhero side of the network, hits like “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Jane The Virgin,” and “Supernatural” have also been solid performers in 2016.
The network will also discuss the future of “The Vampire Diaries,” “iZombie” and the new drama “Riverdale” at the event, which will be taking place throughout the day today.
