If you picked-up ‘Dishonored 2‘ on launch-day then you probably have assassinated your way through the story by now, but a new update will give you plenty of reasons to start a new game. Bethesda, the publisher that released the game back in November, confirmed that the free update the company promised a few weeks ago is now officially live. Our editor enjoyed the game when it was reviewed earlier this year, and a free update is always welcomed by the community.

This is actually the first free game-update released for the title, and it will add a new ‘New Game Plus’ mode on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. With this new mode players will be able to combine Empress Emily Kaldwin’s abilities with Royal Protector Corvo Attano’s signature powers to create any custom combo of multiple powers that they can imagine. The new game mode will unlock once you complete the game as either Emily or Corvo, and New Game Plus lets you begin anew as either character with access to each hero’s full suite of abilities, plus all the Bonecharm Traits and Runes that you may have collected from your previous playthrough. You can then re-assign them to choose the powers you want.

Even more options to customize your experience will arrive in January with the game’s second free update. Bethesda is keeping that update a secret, but did mention that the update will include two new features; ‘Mission Select’ and new difficulty settings for players to test their skills. These new ‘Custom Difficulty Settings’ will allow players to create a game that adjusts to their playstyle, and will offer challenges based on a wide array of settings. The studio teased in the announcement today, “Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more details on the second free update.” The studio didn’t give an exact date for an announcement, but January is only a few short weeks away at this point. If we are lucky, we could see a new trailer, or at least learn a few more details, shortly after the new year.

The game was a big hit for the studio when it released back in November, allowing players to reprise their role as a supernatural assassin. Dishonored 2 is the follow up to Arkane Studio’s first-person action blockbuster and winner of more than 100 ‘Game of the Year’ awards. Recently honored with ‘Best Action-Adventure Game’ at The Game Awards 2016, Dishonored 2 has been praised by fans and critics alike since its release.

The story picks up after the mad witch Delilah seizes the throne, and the fate of Empress Emily Kaldwin’s Empire is left hanging in the balance. The developers ask the question, “how far will you go to hunt down your enemies – and take back what’s yours? Will you choose to play as Empress Emily Kaldwin or the royal protector, Corvo Attano? How will you combine your powerful supernatural abilities, weapons and gadgets to eliminate your enemies?”

If you haven’t picked-up the game yet you can actually grab it on sale at this point, depending on what platform you prefer. We found the game on PS4 and Xbox One for $39 at Amazon.com, and it was priced at $59 on Steam.
