FOX is launching an all-new series based on the ’24’ franchise this winter, and the show will be premiering in countries all around the world. The network has already set a premiere date for “24: Legacy” here in the United States, the show will be the next chapter in the Emmy Award-winning “24” series that started with Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer. The show will domestically on February 5, 2017, it will then launch in more than 160 countries across the globe.
The drama will launch on FOX channels across licensed territories in Latin American markets such as Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina; in Asian markets including Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia; and in European and African markets such as the U.K., Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, and South Africa.
Starring Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton”), Miranda Otto (“Homeland”) and Jimmy Smits (“Sons of Anarchy”), 24: LEGACY chronicles a race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil – in the same real-time format that has propelled this genre-defining series.
Fox Networks Group Chairman and CEO Peter Rice talked about the global launch saying, “The ‘24’ franchise is a true cultural phenomenon and we are excited to allow fans in these 160 countries to experience the next installment all at once. At a time when media is instantaneous and global, viewers around the world will now experience, in real time, the events of this series which invented real-time storytelling.”
24: LEGACY reunites the original series’ award-winning producing team of Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer, Manny Coto and Evan Katz; directors Stephen Hopkins and Jon Cassar; and “24” star Kiefer Sutherland, who all serve as executive producers.
Originally premiering on November 6, 2001, “24” was nominated for a total of 73 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Over eight seasons, Kiefer Sutherland garnered seven Emmy Award nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actor – Drama Series. While the series gained global recognition, Sutherland’s portrayal of the legendary character penetrated the American psyche like no other dramatic television character to become part of the cultural lexicon.
The most recent chapter in the franchise, “24: Live Another Day,” a 12-episode event series that premiered in the summer of 2014 on FOX, was both a critical and ratings hit, garnering three Emmy Awards.
24: LEGACY is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. Howard Gordon, Brian Grazer, Manny Coto and Evan Katz are executive producers. The original series, which had its last American broadcast on May 24, 2010, was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran.
