Universal debuts “The Mummy” official trailer
Earlier this week Universal Pictures released a teaser-trailer for “The Mummy,” and now the studio has released the full-length, official-trailer for the project.
This marks the first trailer for the highly-anticipated supernatural thriller, which hosts a gigantic cast and promises ghoulish special-effects. You can check-out the official trailer below, or on Universal’s official Youtube channel.
The trailer was released during the broadcast of Sunday Night football here in North America, the film itself will hit theaters on June 9, 2017. The studio teases the film stating, “Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.”
We wouldn’t call this new project a reboot of Universal’s classic “Mummy” tales, but if all goes well at the box-office this could be the rebirth of classic monster-films. Universal still owns the rights to many of the classic tales, and Movie-Monsters might be the next big hit after the superhero trend runs its course. You can decide for yourself after watching the trailer below.
Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator).
The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on.
Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.
Fan can set a reminder to catch “The Mummy” on opening day on June 9, 2017.
