Earlier this year Nintendo made headlines when it announced that it will finally be bringing Mario to iOS and Android systems, and it seems that was just the beginning of Nintendo’s new expansion project. Not only will Nintendo be bringing their unique properties to smartphones, it seems that Mario, Toad, Peach and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom will be headed to Universal theme parks in the very near future.
Universal Studios and Nintendo are teasing gigantic Piranha Plants, life-sized question blocks, power-ups and more as Nintendo properties will soon hit the theme parks. The studio stated, “You will enter an entire realm filled with iconic Nintendo excitement, gameplay, heroes and villains. And it is coming to three Universal theme parks around the globe.”
The same creative team that works on Nintendo’s legendary worlds and characters will be working with the creative teams behind Universal’s theme park attractions. The new partnership will bring the characters, action and adventure of Nintendo video games to life within Universal theme parks. These Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
The new themed areas come as the result of a global partnership between Universal Parks & Resorts and Nintendo – two icons of the entertainment world. Each Universal theme park will announce details of its specific Nintendo areas. The first such announcement “will come soon,” according to the join-announcement released today.
As part of the announcement, Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, and Mark Woodbury of Universal Creative, were both featured in a short promotion video teasing the upcoming attractions. You can watch the video below, in it, the two share early insights on the collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts, as well as tease a few of the attractions.
Nintendo fans can watch the official announcement above, or on the official Nintendo YouTube page.
